Gai Tihar

Gai Tihar, the third day of Tihar, is a day dedicated to honoring cows, revered as sacred animals in Hinduism. They are considered symbols of wealth, prosperity, and motherhood.  While the exact origins of Gai Tihar are shrouded in Folklore or tradition, the festival’s deep-rooted connection to agriculture and rural life is evident. Cows and Oxens have been invaluable to human civilizations for centuries. As our shelter has been a home for all kinds of farm animals facing adversity. We provide shelter to animals abandoned on the streets, victims of accidents, and those suffering from various ailments. Rescued from the brink of death, these cows are brought to our shelter for a fresh start. We do not engage in dairy farming or exploit these gentle creatures. Instead, we focus on their recovery through dedicated medical care. Once healed, they enjoy a peaceful retirement within our sanctuary, living out their lives in comfort and security.

At Sneha’s Care, Gai Tihar is a celebration of life in all its forms. While we honor the significance of cows, we also extend our gratitude to the other animals in our care, our 18 cows, along with goats, buffaloes, sheep, and pigs. We adorn our animals with colorful garlands, apply auspicious tikas, and offer them special treats. It’s a day filled with joy and reverence as we appreciate the unique contributions of each species to our ecosystem. We believe that every living creature deserves respect and compassion, and Gai Tihar provides us with a perfect opportunity to express this sentiment.
We use this day to reflect on the importance of compassion and care for all living beings. If you are interested to join us in this particular event please email or DM us in our social media pages.
